Carl Suchy & Söhne Watches in Zurich.
Viennese Elegance & Swiss Watchmaking.
Carl Suchy & Söhne has revived one of Austria's most distinguished historic watch brands, whose origins date back to 1822, when Carl Suchy founded his watchmaking business in Vienna. As an official supplier to the Imperial and Royal Court (k. u. k. Hofuhrenlieferant), the company became renowned for exceptional timepieces and counted Emperor Franz Joseph, Empress Elisabeth (Sisi), and Sigmund Freud among its clientele. In 2016, Robert Punkenhofer initiated the brand's revival, working together with independent Swiss watchmaker Marc Jenni and a team of specialists to create the foundation for its contemporary rebirth.
At the centre of this revival is the Waltz N°1, a mechanical watch that combines Vienna's rich cultural heritage with modern Swiss watchmaking. Its technical foundation is an ultra-thin automatic Vaucher calibre, modified by Marc Jenni to accommodate the brand's signature rotating seconds disc at six o'clock. Known as the "Waltz Disc," it completes one full rotation every minute, allowing its guilloché pattern to interact beautifully with the dial. The traditional seconds hand is thus transformed into a distinctive mechanical design feature that has become the hallmark of the brand.
Marc Jenni's collaboration continued with subsequent collections. Together with designer Miloš Ristin, he contributed to the development of the Belvedere collection and its CSS201 calibre, based on a Dubois-Dépraz movement. The moving date display builds upon the principle of the Waltz Disc, reinterpreting it for a new generation of watches. Produced in small series, Carl Suchy & Söhne timepieces combine Austrian design with Swiss engineering, craftsmanship, and manufacturing.
The brand's design language is inspired by Viennese Modernism, particularly the minimalist aesthetics of architects such as Adolf Loos and Josef Hoffmann. Clean lines, geometric forms, and finely executed guilloché patterns are complemented by distinctive mechanical details. The latest Vienna model continues this philosophy, combining architectural clarity with a modern mechanical movement and the signature rotating seconds disc. As with previous collections, each watch is hand-assembled in Switzerland by independent watchmaker Marc Jenni.
Carl Suchy & Söhne represents the unique combination of Austrian heritage, Viennese design, and independent Swiss watchmaking. Since the brand's revival, Marc Jenni has served as both technical partner and watchmaker, collaborating closely on the development of new collections and innovative mechanical solutions. The watches are manufactured through Nobletime, combining distinctive design with meticulous Swiss craftsmanship. In doing so, Carl Suchy & Söhne continues its historic legacy while bringing together Viennese elegance and modern mechanical precision.
